Program Overview
Industrial Economics, transformed from the major of Business Economics which had started to recruit students since 1985, is a key discipline and has cultivated a large number of well-known experts, scholars, and management talents in governments and enterprises. In 2002, Industrial Economics from Anhui University of Finance and Economics was identified as Provincial-level Key Discipline in Anhui Province. Courses, including Industrial Economics, Trade Economics and etc, were evaluated as Provincial-level High-quality Courses. Also, Circulation Theory and Practice was evaluated as the first batch of University-level High-quality Postgraduate Courses. In 2008, Industrial Economics was again identified as a Provincial-level Key Discipline of Category B in Anhui Province.
Industrial Economics offers degree programs which apply the basic theories and analysis methods of Marxist Economics to research issues on industrial organization, industrial structure, industrial layout, industrial policy and etc, as well as problems in fields including circulation economy, modern service industry, regional industrial development and etc., The ultimate goal of the graduate programs in Industrial Economics is to cultivate high-level special talents who are well-equipped with widely international vision, comprehensive ability and quality to grasp academic frontier and to meet the needs of China's economic and social development. After years of construction, four main research directions, which are relatively stable and unique, have been formed.:
a) Theory and Policy of Industrial Organization
Industrial organization is a mainstream research direction of industrial economics, discussing specific paradigms of competition among enterprises of different industries as well as their interactions. This research direction applies research methods of theories of modern industrial organization, especially game theory, to theoretically analyse market competition paradigms and strategic behaviors in market economy, to track frontier issues about the development of modern industrial organizations, such as industrial clusters, industrial integration and etc, to deeply discuss the industrial organization policies and regulation practices which adapt to socialist market economy.
b) Theory and Policy of Circulation Economy
Circulation economy has always been the key research direction of industrial economics in Anhui University of Finance and Economics, with prominent characteristics and obvious advantages. This research direction applies theories and methods of industrial economics to research circulation issues. It attaches great importance to the fusion of circulation theory and industrial economics theory, pays close attention to the role of circulation in promoting industrial and economic development, and tracks hot issues, frontier problems as well as major theoretical subjects in the field of circulation economy. Additionally, this research direction, focuses on researching theoretical and practical issues on circulation innovation, retail industry, circulation of agricultural products and etc, from the perspective of circulation industry operation and related industry development.
c) Optimization of Regional Industrial Structure
Optimization of industrial structure is a key research field in industrial economics. According to the new situations and problems occuring in the practice of China's industrial structure, this research direction mainly applies empirical researches to discuss the theories and policies of optimizing regional industrial structure, to research issues about optimizing and upgrading industrial structure, regional leading industry selection, independent innovation and etc, and to deeply discuss the industrial structure policies adapting to the operation of socialist market economy.
d) Theory and Policy of Modern Service Industry
This research direction applies theories and methods of industrial economics to research service economy; to track theories and frontier issues about the development of modern service industry; to focus on fields including regional service innovation system and service industry competitiveness, service industry development strategy and economic growth, producer services, industrial chain financing, futures and options; and to probe into the modern service industry policies adapting to the development of China’s socialist market economy.
